R&I Engineer

Elkem Carbon Solutions (ECS) is the world leading supplier of carbon paste and speciality products to the ferroalloys, silicon, and aluminium industries.

Our R&I department in Kristiansand is on the lookout for a new team member to join our research team as we innovate towards a more sustainable and circular future by finding novel and improved solutions for our customers.

We are looking for a candidate with good reasoning abilities that enjoys working as part of a team in solving scientific challenges and one who can think out-of-the-box to develop innovative solutions and products for our customers. 

The ECS R&I department is a team of culturally diverse, highly qualified professionals that carry out innovative projects within raw materials, product development, technical customer support and core research into carbon-based products for the pyrometallurgical industry.

The position will work very closely within all R&I efforts for ECS product innovations as well as ECS Business Segments.

Most important areas of responsibility: 

  • New product development and improvements to existing products
  • Technical customer support visits
  • Providing expert support to our production facilities
  • Projects within lining and tapping paste development toward the pyrometallurgical industry
  • Project management and execution in cooperation with customers internally and externally in Norway and abroad
  • Project involvement with research institutes and partners in Norway and abroad
  • Disseminate critical knowledge in the organization
  • Promote and commit to divisional targets and standards
  • Involvement in cross discipline innovation projects
  • Facilitating certain administrative functions within the R&I department

Qualifications required for the position:

  • Minimum university degree in metallurgy, chemical engineering
  • Minimum 5 years industrial or product development experience (Experience with refractory materials would be beneficial)
  • Fluency in English

In order to succeed in this position you will need good communication skills and a relevant background or have educational and personal characteristics well suited to develop into the role of our new R&I Engineer.

This position is part of the Elkem Carbon Solutions R&I team in Kristiansand, Norway and  reports to the R&I Director of Elkem Carbon Solutions.
